Tutorial on Finding Your New York State Unclaimed Money
Once on the Office of Unclaimed Funds page you'll see a red button on the right that says "Search Now." Click it and you'll enter your name in the box that says "Search for Individual." The last name is required but the first name is optional. Enter your first name to help you save time and narrow your search then click "Search."
A list of names will be returned matching yours. There is an address to the left of each name which was the name's owner's at the time the property went unclaimed. Find your claim by identifying addresses that you lived at at one time or currently do so.
Once you find property that may be yours click on it and you will then be required to fill out a claim form. Enter at least the required info which is first name, last name, and address. Entering your telephone number and email address is not required but it is suggested to help expedite your claim process. They are quick ways to get a hold of you if the claim department must.
Clicking "Next" at the bottom of the page will advance you to a page where you must verify your address is correct. If you're satisfied with it click "Next" again.
On the next page you have the option of entering your birthdate. If your name is different than the one on the claim you must specify why and if the owner of the claim is not you, you must specify your relationship with the owner of the New York state unclaimed money. If you are the owner then select "self" from the drop down box. Click "Next" to continue.
You'll then be ready to print the form and collect the necessary documents to prove your ownership of the claim. Please note that you'll need download Adobe Reader and intall it on your computer to print this document off. Download Adobe Reader here.
